My Aquarium!

I bought a 55 gallon tank from my boss late November of 2001.  I decided to go with a reef tank because that's what my wife really wanted.  After spending too much on live rocks, we decided that a hybrid reef/fish tank would do just fine!  Click on the picture below for a slideshow!  Click here for a slide show of the tank with my new Moon lights!

I'm currently attempting to move my tank from one room to the next room.  The move is only about 15-feet and you wouldn't think it would be that bad, but considering where my sump is and the fact that I can't move the sump makes this feel way too much like work....  My sump is located  in my basement and is made out of a 55 gallon HDPE drum.  Sounds real easy at first, but....  I won't bore you with details unless you really want to hear them!  We had a pretty good heat wave for the Buffalo area late June/early July, and my drum/sump idea turned into a drum/filter/sump/water cooler...  Go figure!

The filter in just a 4 inch corrugated pvc pipe with one gallon of bioballs held in by plastic screen (yes, from your window).  The overflow drains by gravity via 3/4 inch pvc pipe to the filter, and is pump up using a Mag Pump 1200.  I've estimated that the pump pushes about 200-300 gallon per hour (give me a break, i haven't found a free flow meter yet!).  The pop bottle in the filter is just used to hold up a bag for carbon.
